Rampart Dam Valve Condition Assessment

Colorado Springs, Colorado

About the Project

Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) has numerous pump and valve stations throughout its system that are confidential for security reasons and extremely important to operations.

AE2S was hired to assess valves, electrical, SCADA, and other items in a key tunnel adjacent to the dam, including evaluating a 42-inch ball valve, 60-inch butterfly valves, 30-inch plug valves, and Air/Vac valves along with miscellaneous smaller butterfly valves of varying sizes.

Comprehensive Assessment and Recommendations

The scope included review of old record drawings, performing on-site condition assessments, performing forensic analyses (evaluated options to rehabilitate or replace certain valves), and preparing a final report with recommendations and cost estimates.

Our team provided a quick response to CSU to help with getting the necessary information needed for fiscal budgeting. AE2S provided process, electrical, and I&C engineers to help with the condition assessment. We also provided a material specialist that had previously tested valves to the point of failure and could provide CSU with Front Range valve experience in a variety of mountain pressure conditions (including extreme pressures).
