Climate Ready Water Utilities Initiative

MN water actionThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) recently updated its Climate Ready Water Utilities (CRWU) initiative with revision 3.0 of the Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT). The web-based climate risk assessment and planning application assists drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater utility owners and operators in understanding potential climate change threats and in assessing the related risks at their respective utilities.

The USEPA posted a video that describes how the City of Faribault, Minnesota used CREAT to complete recent projects and develop a plan for the future. The USEPA also updated its Climate Projection Scenario Map using data provided in CREAT. The map gives utilities quick access to projected changes in annual total precipitation, annual average temperature, annual number of days over 100°F, 100-year storm intensity, and sea-level rise at their location. Users can learn more and access CREAT, the Scenario Map, and other tools from the CRWU homepage
