USEPA Proposes Updates to NPDES Regulations

epaThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing several regulatory revisions and updates to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) under the Clean Water Act. After consulting with regional and state permitting experts and stakeholders from regulated and environmental communities, USEPA has proposed several improvements:

  • Clarify NPDES definitions and application requirements
  • Improve permit decision documentation in fact sheets
  • Allow permitting authorities to issue public notice of certain permit actions online rather than in a newspaper
  • Ensure issuance of environmentally significant permits in a more timely manner

The proposed rule has a 60-day public comment period, which ends on July 18, 2016. Click to view or submit comments on Docket No. EPA-HQ-OW-2016-0145 with theĀ Federal Register.
