Public Input Requested on Draft Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

lake harrietThe federal Great Lakes Interagency Task Force has released a draft Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Action Plan for public input. The draft plan recognizes that states, tribes, municipalities, public interest organizations, businesses, academia and other entities have a strong role to play in protecting the Great Lakes. The draft covers fiscal years 2015 to 2019.

The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Action Plan aims to:

  • Clean up areas of concern and reduce toxic contamination.
  • Prevent and control invasive species.
  • Reduce polluted runoff that impacts shore health.
  • Restore habitat and native species.
  • Address cross-cutting issues such as science-based adaptive management and climate change.

Click here to access, review, and provide input on the draft Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Action Plan. Input can also be provided by email at actionplan@glnpo.net. Comments may be submitted throughout the summer. The final Action Plan is expected to be released by October 1, 2014.
