No-Lead Brass Rule brass waterworks

It’s time to start assessing your brass waterworks inventory. The Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act goes into effect on January 4, 2014.

The new law applies to the wetted surfaces of any product used in a drinking water system. That means it’s time to plan for the transition to no-lead alternatives, which can cost as much as 25 percent more.

The new requirement will force suppliers and contractors to change their products and inventories. The engineering community also needs to revise specifications for no-lead brass parts such as curb stops, meters, regulators, check valves, etc.
