A new addition to the AE2S team arrived with a multifaceted view of the water industry thanks to his experience in six previous roles. John Kuosman, PE, built his career intentionally with a goal of acquiring and understanding different perspectives.
“I have served in four other consulting firms from corporate headquarter office, to an 80-person regional office, to a one-person regional office startup. I have also worked for more than 100 different clean water communities as a Director at two of the three largest clean water wholesalers in Colorado. I am really proud to have been an adjunct professor teaching client engagement, design principles, and prototyping to undergraduate students at the Colorado School of Mines,” he explains. “I’ve worked in the West, upper Midwest, Midwest, Southeast, and the Atlantic coast regions. There is truth and wisdom in every perspective of our industry, and the best solutions capture the overlap of those perspectives.”
John enthusiastically joined the AE2S Denver office in March armed with 27 years of experience, an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, plus M.S. in Civil Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Colorado.
“I am excited to support two ‘frontier’ offices in the AE2S footprint – Colorado and Idaho. The water starved west is challenged to find sustainable solutions for their communities,” says John. “I think AE2S has a lot to offer the communities in these States. I intend to support a pathway for AE2S to provide lasting and sustainable solutions in these communities for generations to come.”
One of John’s favorite aspects of engineering is getting to know clients to understand their core challenges. As a confirmed extrovert, John enjoys facilitating conversations and asking questions that come from his own genuine curiosity to discover what each client needs and how AE2S can be of valued service to them.
John credits his parents for helping develop his service-oriented personality. As the youngest of five children raised in Colorado Springs, his upbringing has much to do with how John lives his life now. “I am grateful for the abundance and opportunity their love provided me and my family, and I try to pay that forward in how I serve in my family, profession, community, and my journey of awareness,” he says.
Similar to his resume, John’s interests outside of work are eclectic. He counts cooking, live music, playing cards and board games, puzzles, traveling with family, as well as collecting vinyl records and Chuck Taylor shoes among his favorite pastimes. He also enjoys spending time walking and hiking with his standard poodle named Sirius. John takes hiking seriously – he has climbed more than 30 of Colorado’s 14,000-foot mountain peaks!
His zest for life and helping others make John a good fit with AE2S. “I love learning and serving others. I am excited about so many things at AE2S, but most excited to find more ways to serve communities with critical water infrastructure,” he says.
