Surging enrollment and deteriorating parking surfaces prompted the University of North Dakota (UND) to hire AE2S for a multi-year parking facility project.  The first year plan included new parking facilities at Memorial Stadium, the new Visitor’s Center, and the Medical Science building.  All lots were constructed of concrete on a well-drained base for maximum life and durability. 

The second year construction included the expansion of the Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Chester Fritz Auditorium parking lots, as well as strategic repairs all around campus.  The Barnes and Noble Bookstore and Chester Fritz Auditorium parking lots were constructed of asphalt to match existing construction.  The base consisted of recycled asphalt and drain tile connected to the storm sewer system.

Having previously completed a comprehensive storm water management plan, AE2S incorporated the proposed storm sewer into the parking lot design ensuring conformity with the master plan.  AE2S had also previously completed detailed mapping of existing underground infrastructure, expediting the production of bidding documents.  Construction was performed between spring and fall semesters, minimizing disruption on campus and focusing on student safety.  Listed below are the individual projects and their components:

• Visitors Parking Lot:  Design and construction of storm sewer and parking facility adjacent to the campus Visitor’s Center.
• Memorial Parking Lot:  Design and construction of storm sewer and parking facility adjacent to the Memorial Stadium.
• Medical Science Parking Lot: Design and construction of storm sewer and parking facility adjacent to the Medical Science Building.
• Center of Aerospace Sciences (CAS) Parking Lot:  Design and construction of storm sewer, road realignment and parking facilities near the Center for Aerospace Sciences.
• Central Foods Parking Lot: Design and construction of storm sewer and parking facility on the south side of Central Receiving.  Required connection to existing parking and storm sewer.
• Chester Fritz Parking Addition: Design and construction of an asphalt parking lot extension adjacent to the Chester Fritz Auditorium. Required watermain relocation.
• Barnes & Noble Parking Addition:  Design and construction of storm sewer and asphalt parking facility on the south side of Central Receiving.  Required connection to existing parking and storm sewer.
