Langdon Wind Farm Survey
D.H. Blattner and Sons

Langdon Wind FarmD.H. Blattner and Sons hired AE2S to complete construction of the Langdon Wind Turbine Project. The project consisted of six surveying categories as listed below:

  • Establishment of Control for Construction Staking – RTK GPS receivers were used to establish a tight control network over the area in which the wind turbines were to be constructed. Durable monuments were strategically placed throughout the site to serve as base stations for construction staking. The monuments were constructed to remain stable for several years.
  • Centerline and Offsets for Road Construction – With survey control in place, centerline and offset stakes were placed for road construction at 100-foot stations and at the direction of DH Blattner. Data for the staking was extracted from CADD files provided by the designer and calibrated to real-world site coordinates.
  • Turbine Location and Offset Staking – The locations of the towers was the most critical task of the surveying project. Stakes were accurately placed along with offets as requested by Blattner crews, then double checked from redundant locations as a quality control measure.
  • Underground Collection System Staking – Lath were placed to guide the placement of underground collection infrastructure. AE2S surveyors worked with the Blattner team to placed stakes at intervals that best suited the construction crews.
  • As-built Survey – As-built locations for towers, roads, and collection systems were measured with GPS, then drawn in AutoCAD and transferred to DH Blattner as requested.

Additionally, at the request of Blattner, AE2S provided engineering services to design a septic system for the O&M Facility.

The Langdon project was successfully completed 6 months ahead of schedule, which is approximately half the time of the proposed schedule. The Generation facility is now providing power to various consumers around the region.
