New Drought Response and Recovery Guide for Utilities

droughtThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has released its new Drought Response and Recovery Guide for utilities. USEPA indicates that the user-friendly guide includes Microsoft Word and Excel worksheets, best practices, videos, case studies, and key resources for responding to drought emergencies and building long-term resilience.

The case studies are drawn from seven small to medium size utilities in California, Texas, Georgia, New Mexico, Kansas, and Oklahoma that have dealt with extreme drought conditions. Each case study includes videos with utility personnel who describe how each utility reduced customer demand, managed water supplies, and created partnerships.

The guide is divided into five sections:

  • Overview and Navigation
  • Staffing, Response Plans, and Funding
  • Water Supply and Demand Management
  • Communication and Partnerships
  • Case Studies and Videos

Click on the Drought Response and Recovery Guide, a Basic Guide for Utilities to access the 37-page document prepared by USEPA.
