money in waterThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has published a report called, "The Importance of Water to the U.S. Economy." The report is intended to help raise the awareness of water’s importance to the United States' economic welfare, and to summarize information that public and private decision-makers can use to better manage the nation’s water resources. The report states, "The path to making better choices in using and managing our water resources begins with a better understanding of the economic and environmental consequences of the options available to us."

The study's five components include background, expert papers, a technical workshop, a public symposium, and a synthesis report.
