  • Urban Plains Water Quality Management Plan and Stormwater Modeling
AE2S was retained to develop a water quality management plan and stormwater modeling for the Urban Plains development in Fargo, ND. The development includes a unique water feature which provides a local attraction and stormwater retention. Runoff analysis was performed and a HydroCAD model was set up to replicate the existing on-site conditions. The model was used to generate peak flows for 2-year, 10-year, and 100-year hydrologic events. A model was also created in XP-Storm Stormwater Management to aid in the design of the stormwater system. A water quality management plan was then created, using estimated nutrient and sediment loading to the main pond from the proposed uses of the surrounding land. The plan included appropriate water control strategies and water quality control recommendations for construction of the water feature. For a more detailed description click here.

Stormwater Modeling

Stormwater ModelingA Different Approach.  Modeling stormwater requires a different approach than water and wastewater systems.  With water and wastewater systems, the flows will vary throughout the day and seasonally, but the variations are generally predictable.  With stormwater, the flows vary dramatically, from zero most of the time, to extremely high flows during summer thunderstorm events.  Snow melt events can also create problems in some areas.  AE2S' stormwater modeling experts can deal with whatever Mother Nature throws at them, and are proficient at utilizing models to simulate rainfall events, predict how changes in land use will impact the results, and how the drainage system itself can impact the magnitude and location of flooding.
