AWWA Presents Distinguished Awards
11/20/1999

The North Dakota Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) recently presented the prestigious Fuller Award to Advanced Engineering Vice President Steve Burian, P.E. and the Operator’s Meritorious Service Award to Hillsboro Public Works Superintendent Jim Anderson at the North Dakota Water and Pollution Control Conference held in Minot.

The George Warren Fuller Award is presented annually by the American Water Works Association to the sections’ respective selected members for their distinguished service to the water supply field, sound engineering skills, diplomatic talent, and constructive leadership. Steve originally became actively involved in water issues while he was pursuing his Masters of Engineering degree at the University of North Dakota. He is well versed in the regulatory side of water issues including the Safe Drinking Water Act. Steve currently serves as the National Director for the North Dakota Section of AWWA. As a member of AWWA for ten years, he has been very involved in committee activities including the Research Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, and the Membership Committee, which specializes in getting students involved in the organization.

The Operator’s Meritorious Service Award is presented to state operators to recognize special performance by operators for compliance with public health standards, plant maintenance, development of new ideas, training, and outstanding achievement beyond normal operating responsibilities. Jim has been the Hillsboro City Superintendent for five years and a member of AWWA for __ years. Under his leadership the City of Hillsboro is taking a proactive role in developing strategies to maintain the Water Treatment Plant and increase the quality of treated water.

AWWA is an international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply. Founded in 1881, AWWA is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world. Its more than 50,000 members represent the full spectrum of the drinking water community: treatment plant operators and managers, scientists, environmentalists, manufacturers, academicians, regulators, and others who hold genuine interest in water supply and public health. Membership includes more than 4,000 utilities that supply water to roughly 180 million people in North America.
